People know little about surrogacy. There is a lot of stigma and myths surrounding it. When surrogacy is discussed in society, most often, it is mentioned on the background of scandalous celebrity stories.
Even though this process is quite complex both physically, financially, and morally, ordinary people can also use such services. Surrogate mothers also experience severe stress. In many cases, women decide on this because of money. However, some people do it not for financial reasons.
Today, we want to tell you the story of a merciful woman. 32-year-old Rachel Wilcox agreed to have a baby for another woman. However, it wasn’t an ordinary passer-by who offered her money. It was her sister-in-law. As it turns out, she gave birth to her own niece!
33-year-old Amanda Patterson was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer. After treatment, she became infertile. Rachel, the wife of Amanda's brother, soon found out about it. It touched the woman so much that she offered Amanda herself as a surrogate mother to her child.
Amanda agreed, and now she and her husband have a daughter, Adalyn Rae, whom they have been dreaming of for so long.
The Pattersons are now delighted and are learning to be good parents. Rachel admits that if they ever want a second child, she will be happy to become their surrogate mother again.
On International Women's Day, Amanda wrote a post about Rachel – “the most incredible woman she knows.”
People left hundreds of positive comments under the post with the story, being amazed at the woman’s courage. Do you also think Rachel did the right thing? Or is surrogate motherhood something unnatural? Share your thoughts in the comments.
