The son of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor, is 11th in the line of succession to the throne of Great Britain and holds the title of Viscount Severn instead of Royal Highness because of his parents’ decision.

Despite the high status, Viscount Severn is an 11-year-old boy who likes to have fun and play outdoors as much as any other kid.

On Monday, Prince Edward's family, along with Prince Philip, decided to spend a relaxing day in the castle gardens. During this family idyll, little James was photographed driving a vehicle with his mother in the passenger’s seat.

The photos didn’t take long to make a splash. However, this was not the first time James was spotted driving. Last year, also around Easter, he was also photographed behind the wheel!

But there is no reason to be alarmed, because since the premises of the castle is private territory, James doesn’t break any laws by driving without a license.

These photos clearly caused heightened public interest because of the January car accident involving Prince Philip, when his Land Rover overturned upon impact with another vehicle. Fortunately, the 97-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was unharmed, but made everyone awfully worried.

This accident affected even the Queen. After having been on the verge of losing her husband, the monarch reportedly stopped driving on public roads after it was recommended by her security team.

That is why the images of 11-year-old James driving beside the Countess of Wessex were not seen as alarming. The young royal begins to practice early on, so that when the time comes, he will be a good and responsible driver.
