Figure Skater Adam Rippon Turns Down NBC’s Offer To Become Olympics Correspondent

February 22, 2018 12:51

For many Olympic Games viewers, Adam Rippon is a champion. The figure skater glided the ice with grace and awe-inspiring skills, but he left his first and last Olympics with no gold medal.

But as The Olympic Creed says, the Olympic Games is not about winning but about fighting well:

The most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.

And that’s what Rippon did. He fought like a true Gladiator.

What brought the 28-year-old ice skater to the front of the public’s eye is not only his incredible performance but also his struggles with the politics and people who have stood against him and his community. All of that combined made him win the media and fans around the world.

Terry Gannon on NBC’s broadcast commented:

He’s owned these Olympics. He’s made them his.

And now, according to USA Today, the figure skating sensation has been offered a correspondent role for the rest of the Olympic Games.

Of course, his fans couldn't be more pleased, including the pop princess Britney Spears!

But Rippon is turning down NBC’s offer. The ice skater and breakout star took to Twitter to reveal his decision.

He commented:

I am flattered that NBC wanted me to work as a correspondent for them here in PyeongChang. Doing this would require me to leave Team USA and move out of the Olympic Village. I don’t want to do that so I had to decline the opportunity. I love being on Team USA and representing our country. My teammates were there for me during my events, and now I NEED to be there for them. I look forward to being with them, and I’m very excited for the rest of the competition. Go Team USA!!!

The fans reacted with the words of support:

Despite that, we are sure this is not the last time we hear about Adam Rippon.
