E’Dena Hines was a step-granddaughter of the Oscar-winning actor, Morgan Freeman. The young woman studied acting at New York University. Her teachers called E’Dena a talented and budding actress.

Everyone who knew E’Dena described her as a person with a keen intellect and genuine heart. She was very kind and generous young lady with exuberant amounts of energy. No one could ever imagine that E’Dena’s life would be cut short in such a terrible way.

Her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, brutally stabbed Hines to death in 2015. The actress was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. The cruelty of this case generated the national attention and caused a huge reaction among people.

E’Dena’s family and friends were shocked by the news as they had no idea there was something wrong in her relationships with the boyfriend. On the contrary, she always talked warmly about Lamar and their plans for future together.  One of her friends told at the trial:

There was nothing in her relationship with Lamar that indicated this type of trouble.

In his statement, soon after the tragedy, Morgan Freeman said that her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what E’Dena meant as a person.

Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. May she rest in peace.

Unfortunately, nothing could return E’Dena back to her family, but she will always live in the hearts of her loved ones.
