Selena Gomez, Winner Of The Woman Of The Year Award, Comments On Her Reconciliation With Justin Bieber

December 19, 2017

There is often a lot of glamor and attention surrounding the lives of celebrities. Many times, the fame and wealth cover their story and even their flaws. Many raving and die-hard fans follow these celebrities, knowing very little about the kind of struggles and challenges they may have endured while growing up.

Selena was born to a teenage mother who was 16 at the time. Despite the odds surrounding her birth, Selena rose through the cracks to become an outstanding actress, music artist, and philanthropist, among other hats she wears. She began as early as 7, featuring in popular TV series, like Barney and Friends.

Selena, chosen as the Woman of the Year

Selena, who is now 25, has had to endure a kidney transplant, and she cannot but be grateful for the life she has and those who stood by her throughout her ordeal. She found a perfect match who volunteered to donate her kidney.

She didn't have the boldness or courage to ask anyone to do this, but the volunteer chose to let her have it even without asking. Who wouldn't be grateful for that? There are others who suffer the same fate, who do not get donors or are unable to raise the funds to get the transplant done. Selena had both.

Selena gives thanks

Honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful for the position that I’ve been given in my career, from 7 to 14 to now.

Those are words from someone who understands what it means to succeed. No one succeeds in isolation of others. Even an island is so because it is surrounded by water. Selena walked gracefully to the stage to receive the Woman of the Year Award put together by Billboard's Women in Music. She has had an incredible year so far.

Most people begin dating in their teens. This was the same for Selena who met Bieber in her teenage years and soon enough, they hit the ground running and showed the world they were deeply in love. Love sure has its ups and downs as later, the news broke out that they were no longer together.

Throughout the years they dated, they came on and off until in February 2016, when she was asked again about the state of her relationship with Justin Bieber. She said:

Well, I am sorry, first of all. And honestly, what I would love to be printed is that I am so beyond done with talking about that, and him.

Life sure goes on for this young and vibrant woman. Her recent victory over illness will surely serve as an inspiration many years from now.
