U.S. Olympian Deletes Selfie With Ivanka Trump Due To The Hate

The U.S. president's daughter and adviser paid a visit to the Olympic Games, which she called "so incredibly inspiring". She then expressed her gratitude for being given a chance to watch the competition as well as "be here with our allies in South Korea."

Ivanka spent part of her day watching the U.S. team compete in the bobsleigh competition after which she met with athletes, including Team USA silver medalist Lauren Gibbs, who let the president’s daughter taste the feel of what is like to be an Olympic medalist by placing the silver medal around her neck.

Lauren Gibbs didn’t miss her chance of taking a selfie with Ivanka, but after posting it on her social media account, the silver medalist received a lot of negative feedback.

Gibbs shared the picture with a message:

It’s important that we don’t have to agree on everything to get along, be civil to each other and enjoy each other’s company.

Her post created an avalanche of hate. The bobsledder tried to respond at first:

But then, she decided to eventually delete the photo. She took to Twitter to explain her decision:

I deleted (by choice) the photo because I was tired of reading the hate being thrown back and forth. Whether you hate me for posting or hate me for taking it down… you are the same… hate from either side is hate.

Gibbs was quite infatuated with taking selfies during the Olympics. She shares photos with a history-maker figure skater Adam Rippon and freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy.

The U.S. finished the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang with 23 medals, nine of which were gold, with a number of historic wins and disappointing losses.
