Disney Announces That Liu Yifei Has Been Cast To Play 'Mulan'

Disney has officially announced, on their social media page, that the role of Mulan in the upcoming live-action film will be played by 30-year-old Chinese actress, Liu Yifei.

The modern rendition of the popular animated movie is currently being produced and on Wednesday, the studios confirmed Yifei as the project's main star. Yifei will lead the film as Hua Mulan, a legendary female warrior who is believed to have taken her father's place in the army.

1. She has been acting for quite a while

Yifei has been an actress for over a decade with her earliest acting credit dating back to 2002. Sure, she may not be hugely famous in America, but abroad, she is a well-established actress.


2. She can also sing

Of course, the fact that she was chosen to take part in a project for Disney, a studio known for its love for musical renditions, it's a safe bet that Mulan should be able to carry a tune. Clearly, they made the right choice with Yifei because she is also a pretty decent singer and is even signed to Sony in Japan. And yes, she has released a few albums.

3. She is loved by brands

Yifei has served as brand ambassador for big names like Dior and Pantene.


4. She has starred with a few well-known Hollywood stars

In 2008, she starred alongside Jackie Chan in the movie, 'The Forbidden Kingdom.' Six years later, we got to see her star in 'Outcast,' a movie which also had Nicolas Cage as a member of its cast.

5. She is a pro

In 2013, Yifei won the Golden Lotus Award for Best Actress at the Macau International Movie Festival.

The film is directed by Niki Caro with Bill Kong as the executive producer. Other producers working on the project are Jason Reed, Chris Bender, and Jake Weiner.


Unfortunately, we still have a long wait ahead of as us we won't get to see Yifei play her lead role in the film until the 2019 release date.
