Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner seemed to be the perfect couple. However, even the best relationships have issues which, unfortunately, sometimes can be unsolvable, as Ben and Jennifer broke up.
Shocking break up
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner filed for divorce in April 2017. Many people saw that coming, because of some rumors that the couple had been considering to break up. After their marriage officially ended, Jennifer commented on her feelings in an interview:
I would not have chosen this life for myself or for my kids. I would not choose to be single or be in this position. It’s something that we are working through. I haven’t been on a date, and I am not interested in dating. People want to set me up, and I am just like, ‘No thank you!'
As the actress once said, Ben is a great but complicated person. She meant the following:
When his sun shines on you, you feel it. But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it's cold. He can cast quite a shadow.
Apparently, this Ben’s characteristic was the decisive factor for their breakup As Ben’s sun, allegedly, is now shining on another woman, Lindsay Shookus, the Saturday Night Live producer.
Great love story
Ben and Jen first met on the set of Pearl Harbor (2001). Later, Garner and Affleck both starred in Daredevil (2002), where they got even closer to each other. However, both of them had relationships at that time. Jennifer was married to Scott Foley, with whom she eventually broke up in 2003. Ben was dating with Jennifer Lopez and even proposed to her later.
In 2004, after calling off the engagement with Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck made the first public appearance with his new girlfriend, Jennifer Garner, at a baseball game featuring Ben’s favorite team, Boston Red Sox. They were both deeply in love with each other, as after only half a year, Ben proposed to Jennifer. The couple married on June 29, 2005. The actor recalls the start of their relationship:
We met on Pearl Harbor, which people hate, but we fell in love on Daredevil.
On December 1, 2005, Jennifer gave birth to the couple’s first child, Violet. Just a few years later, on January 6, 2009, Seraphina Rose, their second daughter was born. And finally, the third child was born on February 27, 2012. It was a boy, and the duo named him Samuel. Although the actress gave birth to three children, she looks gorgeous!
Every now and then, Jennifer praises her dearest husband. Same goes for Ben, as the actor was expressing his love to the family and Jennifer in particular on every occasion. In his 2013 Oscar-winning speech he thanked her for the best marriage, saying:
I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good. It is work, but it’s the best kind of work. And there’s no one I’d rather work with!
In 2015, allegedly, Ben cheated on Jennifer with their children’s nanny, Christine Ouzounian. Apparently, this became a point of no return for their marriage. Although the couple was trying their best to save their relationship, they filed for divorce two years later.
Nowadays, it looks like Ben found himself a new company in the form of Saturday Night Live producer, Lindsay Shookus. It’s his first serious relationship after the 10-year marriage to Jennifer.
It is said, however, that the former couple remains on good terms, as they obviously are trying to be the best parents for their children. They spent last Christmas and Thanksgiving Day altogether.
It is great to see that Ben and Jennifer are doing everything for the children to be as unscathed as possible by maintaining family values!
