She thought Elvis Presley was her real dad.

A Christian couple, Edna and Ted, adopted the 3-year-old because they wanted a girl. They named her Audrey Faith Perry.

In an interview with Larry King, where she spoke about her early life, Hill said she had an amazing childhood filled with the love and support of her adoptive parents and two brothers.

However, the Perrys did not tell her the exact circumstance of her birth. They claimed that her birth mother put her up for adoption because she had an affair with a married man.

But, Faith Hill continued to feel rootless and in fact made up theories about her own birth. Including fantasizing that Elvis Presley was her real dad.

Well, you can't blame a little girl for trying.

Meeting her birth mom.

Hill was 23 when she sought out her biological mother. She said meeting someone who looked like her, whom she came from, filled a hole inside her.

She told Billboard:

I didn’t know anyone I was related to, biologically, which gives you a sense of not knowing who you are.

When she finally met her mom, she realized the Perrys had lied to her. There was no married man in the picture. Her birth mother, a painter, had been unable to care for an unplanned child or legally get an abortion, so she chose to give her daughter away.

The award-winning singer also learned that her birth parents had gotten married and had a son much later.

Other famous adoptions

Faith Hill did not try to build a relationship with her birth mom who passed away in 2007. But adoption gave her the chance to a normal life and we are the better for it.

And like her, the world has had a chance to share the gift of Steve Jobs because of his adoptive parents, Paul and Clara Jobs.

Nicole Ritchie and Darryl Matthews McDaniels of the popular group, Run-D.M.C. are also famous products of adoption.
