The man who founded the Trump real-estate empire was a true role model and inspiration for his son. And recently, Donald paid a sweet tribute to his late father with a touching post on Instagram.

1. He started his empire as a teenager

Fred started working at an early age and soon made the first step toward creating one of the biggest real estate empires in the country. Back in 1923, then 18-year-old Frederick founded a construction business in a cooperation with his mother. The company was called Elizabeth Trump & Son.

2. He built over 27,000 apartments in NYC

Fred's career in the construction business started in New York. He built his very first houses in Queens and Brooklyn. Over the years, Fred Trump built more than 27,000 apartments in New York City only.

3. Donald Trump keeps his dad's portrait in the Oval Office

One of the things that may catch your eye in the Oval Office is the framed photo of Frederick C. Trump on the President's table. Donald Trump often refers to his father as his role model and keeps his photo at a hand's reach.

Son's sweet tribute to his dad

Recently, Donald Trump posted a rare family photo on his Instagram page. In the picture from 1980, Donald stands alongside his famous father as they probably discuss something.

The photo is accompanied with the caption:

Here with my father Fred, back in 1980. My hero, role model, and best friend.

For the last six years of his life, Fred Trump suffered from Alzheimer's disease. The man passed away in 1999 after he became sick with pneumonia. He was 93.
