Mario Lopez Gets Baptized In The Same River As Jesus Did

44-year-old Mario Lopez Jr. is better known now as a TV host. But he first got superstar attention starring in the 1980’s comedy series, Saved by the Bell. Back then, he was A.C. Slater. He also featured in Pacific Blue starting in 1996.


Lopez has hosted several television shows. This includes Name Your Adventure (1992), The Other Half (2001) and Pet Star (2002).

Mario was more recently the sole host of the third and final season of The X Factor America. He previously hosted the second season of the show alongside Khloé Kardashian-Odom.

Lopez is big on faith and God.

Lopez is a pretty hard worker. But one thing he never compromises on is his faith in God. He has always been vocal about his beliefs and is never shy about professing his faith.


Speaking with Fox News Latino in 2015, the actor reiterated the importance of God in his life and career.

I think as I’ve gotten older, I’ve just tried to build a more spiritual muscle in a business that is very unpredictable.


Just last week he paid a visit to Israel. And the high point of his visit was getting baptized in the River Jordan.

A Roman Catholic priest led the ceremony. After being led into the river, Lopez was asked, “Do you believe in Jesus Christ?” and “Do you intend to serve him all your life?”. To this, he replied, “Yes, I do”. Consequently, Lopez was submerged by the priest. And voila, baptized in the river Jordan.

According to the Bible, Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist in the very same river thousands of years ago.

Fabulous Jerusalem

Visiting Jerusalem is a mind-blowing experience, irrespective of religious leanings. For Lopez, his trip was a more so. According to him, seeing the Western Wall was "A powerful spiritual experience”. In addition, he also got to place prayer notes from his family on the wall alongside other faithful.

Furthermore, Lopez also got to explore the ancient tunnels next to the wall which he described as "incredibly fascinating”.

You can just feel how special it is, it’s like an ancient city, everything just looks so, my gosh, so majestic.

Lopez is Catholic as is his wife Courtney and two children.
