They Sure Take Commitment Seriously: 10 Monogamous Animals That Mate For Life

Date February 13, 2019 14:06

There are some people who consider the concept of monogamy to be a human social construct, meaning that only human beings see the value or need to commit to one person for life.

As it turns out, certain animals take this commitment seriously, too. When they choose a mate, they stick together for the rest of their lives. So, in honor of Valentine's Day, here are 10 examples of these creatures.

1. Gray Wolf

These guys know how to fight for their ladies. When breeding season comes around, the male black-necked swans use their wings to beat away any would-be suitors. And when the eggs are hatched, it's also dad's job to watch over the little one while the mom goes out to get some food.
