Todd Fisher, son of Hollywood heavies Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, has released his memoir, titled "My Girls: A Lifetime With Carrie and Debbie." The book is a homage to his late mother and sister, Carrie Fisher, who passed on in 2016. It contains stories of the family growing up in Hollywood and also, never before seen pictures from the family archives.
Todd described the book as “a love letter to two amazing women by the person who knew them best…” It was available for preorder online and went on sale June 5, 2018.
Besides sharing insight about his life with his sister and mother, Todd also said that Carrie regretted coming clean about her affair with Harrison Ford. The late actress first spoke about the affair in her 2016 autobiography, "The Princess Diarist."
Carrie and Ford were involved in a three-month affair while filming Star Wars: A New Hope, in 1976. She was 19 and single, Ford was married and a father of two. Later in 2016, when she was preparing to release her autobiography, her mother Debbie warned her against it.
Following the fans' backlash that followed, Todd says his sister regretted taking the affair public. She eventually apologized to her mother for not taking her advice, saying:
You're right, I shouldn't have told that story.
Ford, on his part, chose to stay silent on the matter. He was interviewed in 2017 and when asked about the book, he said he had not read it. He was, however, aware that Fisher had spoken at length about the affair.
While many people still see the Fisher-Ford affair as a story of romance, she has a totally different angle. In her autobiography, Fisher painted a relationship that was largely bereft of any real emotion. They had sex but barely spoke, he ignored her in public and didn’t treat her like a lot of interest.
Young Fisher was more obsessed with Ford than anything else, and she endured his lack of empathy. She dreamt of a time when he would leave his wife and family to be with her, but that never happened.
Years after the affair ended, Fisher was still uncomfortable around Ford. In many ways, their romance was doomed for failure before it even left the ground.
