With all the drama leading up to the royal wedding, almost nobody was sure that Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, would walk her down the aisle. And despite getting an invitation, he still pulled out at the last minute.
Although some observers expected her mother, Doria Ragland to do the honor, Meghan opted to ask Prince Charles instead. And he graciously obliged. According to The Sun, Meghan is believed to have spoken about it with Prince Harry before approaching her soon-to-be father-in-law.
It may have seemed awkward to have a member of the family one is getting married into walk a bride down the aisle. But Meghan’s was an exceptional case and in the end, it was all for the best. Prince Charles was already set on becoming a father figure for Meghan so in a sense, he just started his duties earlier than usual.
According to a statement released by the Palace, Prince Charles said he was 'pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way'.
Off to a good start
Although the wedding party was not televised, sources who attended the event say that Meghan spoke of the 'close bond' she had developed with her father-in-law, Prince Charles.
The Prince of Wales is said to have taken an active part in preparations for the wedding, a development that was warmly welcomed by Meghan and Prince Harry.
Also, during Prince Harry’s speech at the 70th birthday celebrations held in honor of Prince Charles, Meghan was seen laughing heartily with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Clearly, Meghan is already well on her way to a pleasant time being a royal.
The birthday party is the first official engagement of the newlyweds, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Their honeymoon was pushed forward to accommodate it and other scheduled events.
Even Camilla likes her
Prior to the wedding, the Duchess of Cornwall invited Meghan Markle to lunch at Clarence House. And that marked the start of what has become a warm relationship. It is reported that Camilla even offered Meghan advice on overcoming her jitters.

Meghan and Camilla have a lot in common. Both of them are divorcees, and it is somewhat easy to see how they can relate, given their current positions.

Now with Meghan officially a part of the royal family, it will be interesting to see where the relationship between the royals goes next, especially as the Duchess of Cornwall is now mother-in-law to Meghan.
