In early February of 2019, Charo lost her beloved husband Kjell Rasten to suicide. He was 78 years old.

The experience was incredibly traumatic for the star as she found Kjell herself in their family home. She shared a statement one day later announcing his death:

Yesterday, Kjell, My husband of forty years and the love of my life killed himself. There are no words to describe what we are feeling now. He was an amazing man, a great husband and the best father I could imagine to our son. He dedicated his life to loving and supporting his family.

Since the tragedy, Charo has been recovering and making important decisions about how she wants to continue to live her life and now she's finally ready to candidly speak about her state of mind.

Charo finally talks about losing the love of her life

In an interview with the New York Times, Charo explained that she'll never get over Kjell's death and that the part of her died that day with him:

But she believes that this is a teachable moment for others who struggle with depression and emphasizes the importance of appreciating life and helping those struggling around us:

You must live! And you must watch out for the people you love! I have a plan. I want to change the world. I know what I want, what I want is what people want.

Charo won't stop enjoying life and promises to continue doing what she knows best:

I love life. I will continue entertaining, and I will continue praying.

What actually happened to Kjell?

Kjell Rusten shot himself at the age of 78 after struggling with a skin condition for some time. The treatment was too much for him, which developed into depression.

Charo stated there was no note, which made Kjell's passing that much harder. We hope she continues to stay strong.
