Kate Middleton's parents, Carole and Michael, make a living by owning a business called Party Pieces, a successful online retailer of children party accessories. It was Carole's passion for partyware that inspired them to start their own website and provide fun outfits for various occasions.

Today, Party Pieces is being buried under an avalanche of criticism due to a very unfortunate costume they decided to put in stock.

Princess Diana zombie costume

In advance of Halloween, Party Pieces offered a costume that offended and shocked many people. Users online discovered a 'Princess Diana Zombie Costume' available to purchase on Middleton's website, as reported by many news outlets, including Mirror.

The outfit was previously sold under the controversial name on a different website, but Party Pieces managed to stock on a few dresses before they got taken down.

Daily Star reached out to Diana's close friend Simone Simmons, who was absolutely livid about the costume:

This is sicker than sick. I hope people boycott this site. There are plenty of other places for better Halloween costumes. This is really scraping the barrel. It’s twisted and warped.

Since the scandal started, the outfit was made unavailable on Party Pieces online store.

A simple misunderstanding?

Despite the wave of controversy, it's important to mention that the outfit was sold on the Party Pieces website titled 'Zombie Sleeping Princess Costume'. As mentioned earlier, the 'Princess Diana Zombie Costume' title was used by a different retailer, although the outfit itself is the same.

However, even though Party Pieces didn't use the blatantly offensive name, people consider an injured princess to be a bad choice of partywear to sell, considering Middleton's relation to the royal family.

The public's reaction

While many are deeply offended by the costume, some think the whole situation is being blown out of proportion and cite lack of resemblance between Princess Diana and the zombie costume.

What are your thoughts on the controversy?
