Camilla Parker-Bowles' relationship with the royal family has always been shrouded in mystery. On the one hand, she was a villain in the history of Charles and Diana's relationship, but on the other, Prince of Wales announced Camilla as his chosen one after Diana's death, which his relatives reluctantly accepted over the years.

One big unanswered question, however, is what are Her Majesty's true feelings about the Duchess of Cornwall? Although she attended her son's wedding and welcomes Camilla at family events now, she wasn't always fond of her.

In the biography of Prince Charles titled Rebel Prince, author Tom Bower mentioned the Queen referring to Camilla as "that wicked woman” and saying

I want nothing to do with her

prior to her wedding with Charles. That disdain was harbored by Her Majesty since she first found out about her son's mistress, perhaps she was right?

Her Majesty's warning about Camilla Parker-Bowles

According to several royal biographers, the Queen and Prince Philip knew about Charles' affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles from the beginning. Her Majesty didn't approve of her but turned a blind eye on the situation hoping that her oldest son would get tired of Camilla and focus on building a family with Diana.

However, Charles grew more and more infatuated with Camilla and, supposedly, wanted her to meet his parents, which the Queen shut down immediately. According to royal author Christopher Wilson:

The Queen and Prince Philip knew everything about Prince Charles’ relationship with Camilla; the Queen said I will not have that woman in my presence.

Her Majesty kept referring to Camilla as "un-marriageable," implying that if Charles wants to change his bride, it wasn't going to happen.

But, Prince of Wales kept coming back to Camilla. As history professor Jane Ridley said:

The only thing that the Royal Family wanted to avoid was that the Prince of Wales should become involved in a woman who was un-marriageable from the point of view of the Royal Family, but it seemed this pattern was reappearing.

Thus, the Queen warned Prince Charles about Camilla long before they got married. Considering recent problems between Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, is it too early to say a mother always knows best?

Two ladies did seem friendly on several occasions

Perhaps it was a favor to Prince Charles, or the desire to give speculations some rest, the Queen was often seen in Camilla's company in recent years. For example, in June of 2018, Her Majesty and Duchess of Cornwall attended a dogs demonstration in Buckingham Palace.

In 2015, the Queen even took Camilla to the stables at the Royal Mews to spend time with her favorite horses. This is a very special time for Her Majesty, so bringing Duchess of Cornwall along should've meant something.

That being said, no one really knows what the future holds for Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles. Perhaps, in the event they do get a divorce, the Queen will show her true feelings for the Duchess, but for now, we can only wait.
