Michael Douglas Talks Being Raised By His Famous Dad, Kirk: "He Taught Me To Never Give Up"

Michael Douglas claims he feels extremely lucky that his father, Kirk Douglas, is alive. The 73-year-old American actor and producer says he has a strong connection with his famous dad. He enjoys spending free time with him, and they are having the perfect father-son relations.

In the exclusive interview with the Closer Weekly, Michael Douglas revealed details about his relations with Kirk Douglas. He said his dad was the one who taught him to stay strong:

He taught me to never give up. I just had dinner with him last night. He'll be 102 in December, and he's doing great.

Nevertheless, Michael Douglas claimed he had a difficult time during his childhood, and it was extremely hard to live in the shadow of his father's mega success:

My dad was a movie star — having that name was good and bad. People think it's a silver spoon. It's not.

For this reason, he didn’t want to follow his dad’s footsteps in acting at first. He was afraid to become a bad one:

I thought I could never be the actor Dad was, so I avoided it for a while. Not a lot of actors' kids make it. Hollywood is awash with failures.

I've been able to achieve a fair degree of success in my own right, and have a pretty good relationship and understanding with my father.
