Not Sorry! Michelle Obama Once Explained Why She Broke Royal Protocol When She Met The Queen

It was at this moment that Michelle Obama committed one of the most talked about royal faux pas. After breezing through a perfect curtsey, while they were chatting surrounded by guests, the Queen and Michelle shared a joke and the former first lady put her arms on the Queen's back to hug her.

She's not sorry

She did not expect the outrage that followed and in her memoir finally addresses how she felt about it. She admits that she was completely unaware of that specific royal protocol and worried that the reactions almost drowned out the purpose of their visit.

But, in retrospect, she is unapologetic about it and says the feeling between her and the Queen was mutual because after she made the warm gesture, the monarch returned the favor by holding her too.

If I hadn’t done the proper thing at Buckingham Palace, I had at least done the human thing. I daresay that the Queen was okay with it, too, because when I touched her, she only pulled closer, resting a gloved hand lightly on the small of my back.

The Queen does not mind, apparently

Clearly, the Queen did not mind because in 2011 again, they got to spend time with the royals and slept over at the palace as well. Michelle opened up about the second visit in an earlier interview where she gushed about how stunning Buckingham palace is.

But, she held back pass marks for the food. According to Michelle, American food is way better than British food and she's not apologizing for that either.
