Traumatic history of pith helmets

The First Lady has been known to make problematic fashion choices since her husband came into office, one of the most controversial being her I Really Don't Care, Do You? jacket worn to visit children forcibly separated from their parents by Donald Trump's inhumane immigration policy.

But, she took her risk-taking a little too far when she wore a hat popularised in the 19th century by British colonial masters in Africa. The fashion statement has been a symbol of oppressive colonial rule for decades.

Yet, Melania Trump who recently concluded a solo tour of African countries threw caution to the wind and donned the hat to complete her look for a Kenyan Safari.

After she was called out, she dismissed reactions to her oppressive fashion choice.

While taking questions from reporters on the final leg of her trip, in Egypt, the First Lady said:

I want to to talk about my trip and not what I wear. That's very important what I do, what we do with USAID and what I do with my initiatives. I wish people will focus on what I do not what I wear.

Her flippant response further fueled critics who proceeded to call out her projects.

One Twitter user pointed out that her fashion choice had misrepresented America. What do you think about her response?
