Andy named the boy Benjamin, in honor of his maternal grandfather Ben Allen. The host is absolutely thrilled! He wrote in the announcement:

I’m in love. And speechless. And eternally grateful to an incredible surrogate. And I’m a dad. Wow. ♥️🌈

Andy’s journey to fatherhood

Andy had long wanted to be a parent. Back in 2011, when gay marriage finally became legal, the host said in an interview with People that he would like to get married and start a family, but the time wasn’t right at the moment. He told the magazine:

I have many friends who have had kids alone, but I don’t think I can do it with the lifestyle I have right now.

After several years of careful thought, Andy finally decided he was ready. On the final WWHL episode of 2018, aired on December 20, he made the exciting announcement to his guests and audience:

Tonight, I want you to be the first to know that after many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers and the benefit of science — if all goes according to plan, in about six weeks’ time I’m going to become a father.
