Why Anderson is happy he won’t inherit his mom’s fortune

Despite living the life of a privileged child, Anderson knows what hard work is. He made money working as a child model for world-famous brands starting at age 11, sold lemonade at stands, and worked as a waiter in high school.

His parents always encouraged him to work hard to make his own way. Gloria put Anderson through college, so he never had to deal with the nightmare that is student loans. But Gloria made it clear that he would be on his own once he graduates, and he also would not inherit her vast fortune. The host said in an interview with Howard Stern:

My mom's made clear to me that there's no trust fund. There's none of that. [And] I don't believe in inheriting money.

Anderson went on to explain why it’s actually a good thing: Had he expected to get a large sum of money from family, he probably wouldn’t have been as motivated as he was to do his own thing. He told Howard:

Who's inherited a lot of money that has gone on to do things in their own life? From the time I was growing up, if I felt that there was some pot of gold waiting for me, I don't know that I would've been so motivated.

In the 2016 interview with People, the host said he was grateful to his parents for pushing him to work harder. He told the magazine:

I’m glad I never had that expectation hanging over me or that safety net to fall back on. I always thought, ‘I’m on my own and that’s the way it should be.’

How much is Anderson worth?

It looks like Gloria’s approach worked. Today, Anderson is wildly successful on his own, and he doesn’t need a dime of his family’s money!

The host’s estimated personal net worth is $110 million, and his yearly salary at CNN is $12 million. Given his area of work, you can call it an extreme success! That’s what his mom wanted for him – reaching the top, all on his own.
