Debbie Rowe is the singer’s second wife and mother of his two oldest children, Paris Jackson and Michael Jackson Jr. (the King of Pop had three children in total, although some say he may have had more).

Rowe and Jackson were married for only three years, and many were skeptical about the reason why they tied the knot in the first place, but what does Rowe herself have to say? Why did she marry him, and why did she have his kids?

Rowe explains why she had Jackson's kids

Jackson met Rowe, a nurse, when he was getting treatment for his rare skin condition. The two hit it off right away and became friends. Rowe was struck by how down-to-earth and sincere Jackson really was, she later recalled.

The pop legend was distraught when his marriage to Lisa Marie Presley fell apart. One thing that was especially upsetting to Jackson was the fact that the marriage was childless – he had wanted to be a father for a long time.

He confided in Rowe, his long-time friend, and she had an idea. They would get married and she would "give him" blonde and blue-eyed children. Rowe recalled in a 2003 interview:

I was trying to console him, because he was really upset. He was upset because he really wanted to be a dad. I said, 'So be a dad.' He looked at me puzzled. That is when I looked at him and said. 'Let me do this. I want to do this. You have been so good to me. You are such a great friend. Please let me do this. You need to be a dad, and I want you to be.'

Jackson agreed. He and Rowe tied the knot in 1996, when she was already pregnant with Michael “Prince” Jr. In the same 2003 interview, Rowe recalled how ecstatic Jackson was when baby Michael arrived on February 13, 1997.

The couple’s daughter, Paris, was born a year later. Some media outlets later claimed that Jackson paid Rowe to have his kids, but she denied the claims.

Has Rowe been a present mom?

Jackson and the mom of his son and daughter divorced in 1999, and she readily handed over her custody rights. She knew her kids were in good hands; she’s often described Jackson as “a great father.”

Rowe and her kids were estranged for much of their lives, but they reunited after she received a terrible diagnosis. Back in 2016, Rowe was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her daughter reached out to her, offering support.

It doesn’t really matter now how Paris and her brother came into this world, as they are great individuals with big hearts!
