For 20 years Harry was on the verge of a breakdown, at times feeling like he wants to ‘punch someone’ or experiencing extreme anxiety during royal engagements. Only after turning to counseling his life started to change for good.
However, his personal tragedy made the quest of finding the right partner very difficult. But what made him choose the former American actress, Meghan Markle?
It is connected to Princess Diana
When Harry reached his early 30s, he felt that it’s time to settle down and find the perfect woman with whom he would want to spend the rest of his life. What would be the main factor in his selection? His beloved late mother.
Phycologist Arthur Cassidy explains that Harry was looking for a partner Princess Diana would approve of, a partner who would have the same personality type and the same character traits as her. She would need to be a very extraordinary woman with extraverted nature and emotional stability.
And when he met Meghan, a successful American actress with fun and easy-going personality who exuded psychological maturity and natural beauty, Harry felt like he hit the jackpot.
Markle, an older, mature woman, feminist, and activist, who can handle the paparazzi’s constant attention, seemed like a perfect choice.
A mother or a wife?
A royal author, Angela Levin, who wrote ‘Harry: Conversations with the Prince’, describes Meghan as ‘motherly’ but it’s Harry’s vulnerability and sadness that makes her feel that way towards him.
In the book, Levin quotes historian Dr. David Starkey, saying:
She mothers him a bit, but he needs it, and some women like to do it.
It has become apparent since their engagement interview with BBC and continued throughout the couple’s many public appearances. But it seems that it’s exactly what the heart-broken Prince needed – a wife, a partner, and a mother in one person and he finally got it.
