Friends or foes? A timeline of Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey’s relationship shows that these two were on pretty good terms for many years. What’s happened afterwards and why Donald accused Oprah of ruining their friendship? Let’s find out.
‘Frenemies’ Donald and Oprah
During his April campaign in Georgia, Donald Trump made an interesting revelation. According to The Hill, Trump confessed that he and Oprah Winfrey used to be friends before he ran for office.
Oprah was a friend of mine until I ran for office. Once I ran for office she diverged.
As a Republican, Trump probably didn’t like that Winfrey was campaigning for Stacey Abrams, a representative of the opponent Democrats. Trump even accused the host of burning the tape of his guest appearance on Oprah’s show.
I was on her full show on the last week. I think they’re trying to burn the tape.
Trump lies that he was on Oprah's show in its last week because she had on "her five most important people." He was on the show 3.5 months before it ended: her last show was on May 25, 2011; Trump appeared on Feb. 7, 2011.— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) November 4, 2018
Trump: “Oprah’s been down to Mar-a-Lago,” then claims he was on her last week of shows (he wasn’t), then insinuates they’re”trying to burn the tape.” (Which explains why the tape of the show he wasn’t on doesn’t exist!)— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) November 4, 2018
Things seem to work fine in the beginning
Donald and Oprah were indeed in good terms for a long period of time. Trump even made 8 appearances on her show during 1988-2011.
Donald’s children also appeared on The Oprah Winfrey’s Show. And there was no sign of tension between the host and any member of the Trump family.
Once, Donald and Oprah had a very candid conversation during Trump’s early appearances. They even joked about how Donald’s life would change if he became a president.
It’s sad when politics set two former friends apart.
Maybe, there is still a chance for Trump and Winfrey to make things right. What do you think?
