Fans of the late Judy Garland were tickled pink in March when photos of Renée Zellweger on set for the new biopic about Garland hit social media. Everything from her hair to wardrobe and makeup was near identical to the iconic singer and actress.

Many fans found it hard believing that it was indeed Zellweger and not a reincarnation of Garland. Principal photography for the biopic had just take off in London, and producers decided to offer fans a sneak peak of what was to come.

With an Academy Award under her belt, three SAG Awards, three Golden Globes, BAFTA Award, as well as countless accolades for her performance in movies like “Nurse Betty” (2000), “Bridget Jones's Diary” (2001), and “Cold Mountain” (2003), Zellweger seems quite qualified to pull the role off with ease.

Fans were even the more excited about the movie, as 49-year-old Zellweger is just about the same age as Garland was when the incident in the movie occurred, according to the timeline.

However, one person does not seem too happy with the choice of Zellweger, and she is none other than Garland’s daughter, Liza Minnelli. On Thursday, she released a scathing statement on Facebook distancing herself from the movie.

I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way. Any reports to the contrary are 100% Fiction.

The film chronicles the challenges the star encountered in the course of her career as well as how she battled to find a balance between her professional and personal life.

Garland’s tragic death in 1969 of a drug overdose signaled the end of a vibrant career that many fans never really recovered from. She was 47 at the time.

Daily News tried to get a comment from Zellweger as to her stance on Minnelli’s Facebook remarks, but her rep was unresponsive. Still, production for the movie is still in full swing, and fans are anxious to see the result.
