During a performance of Shakespeare’s Henry IV, a member of the audience became ill and passed out. While the show’s crew who happened to be military vets with medical training attended to the member of the audience, Hanks continued to perform. His intention was to distract the audience. And it worked.

However, Hank’s performance was not even scripted. The 61-year-old actor, who portrays Sir John Falstaff, ran out on stage, calling back members of the audience who had begun moving out of the theater.

“No intermission brew for you!” Hanks shouted out, calling those who were leaving “scurvy rogues”. According to fat knight Falstaff, leaving the theater before a show was “An insult to all actors and to Shakespeare himself”.

He kept up his performance for 15 minutes after which the member of the audience regained consciousness.

Hanks may not be winning an award for his improvisation, but he has gone up another notch in the hearts and minds of his millions of fans.
