What Are The Odds? FLOTUS Melania Trump And Her Predecessor Michelle Obama Are Not So Different After All

Date May 28, 2018

At first glance, a lot of things stand out that make former FLOTUS Michelle Obama and current FLOTUS Melania Trump totally different. For starters, they do not enjoy the same amount of popularity. Even outside the White House, Michelle still has a lot more people interested in what she is up to. Not so much for Melania.

Also, their wardrobe choices are worlds apart. Writer Sarah Wasilak took a close look at both women and what they wear, and noticed one major thing. Michelle Obama seems to have a thing for American designers. At the Singapore state dinner, she wore a stunning piece by Brandon Maxwell that showed off her toned arms.

Her oxblood dress at President Donald Trump’s inauguration was made by New York based Jason Wu.

Melania, on the other hand, takes her pick from a selection of international designers, with Roksanda Ilincic, Gucci, and Antonio Berardi being some of her favorites. She wore a white Roksanda to the famous RNC Convention in July 2016.

As far as style points go, competition is stiff. And although both women do have a great sense of style, many observers hand the trophy for ‘Best Dressed FLOTUS’ to Michelle.

In spite of this major difference, Michelle and Melania have something in common - an undying love for children. Michelle was always eager to speak about her daughters Malia and Sasha, even when they did not appear with her in public.

Melania also always comes across as the doting mother and more often than not can be caught smiling or laughing with her son Barron.

During her time at the White House, Michelle lent her voice and time to causes supporting children in America. Education and literacy for her were major issues as well as childhood nutrition. And even during her campaign travels for her husband’s re-election bid in 2012, she still found time to mix with children in North Carolina.

And her love for children was not limited to America. Here she is again in London, in 2015, on a global tour promoting her 'Let Girls Learn Initiative'.

Melania, on her part, spent some time at the Children's National Medical Center in December of 2017 as part of her Christmas schedule.

In this other photo shared on Instagram, she visited children at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in March.

There is no telling how much goodwill Melania will wield during her time in the White House, or if Americans will warm up to her as much as they did to Michelle. But if she keeps this up, she just might earn herself a few more fans in the coming months.
