When Brigitte Nielsen announced that she was pregnant for the fifth time a couple of months ago, social media was not all happy. Some of her fans felt that the actress and model was taking a big risk, not just for herself but also for the baby. Nielsen’s four children from four marriages are all boys and already grown.
Yet, not everyone was critical of her choice. She still got a lot of pleasant wishes and congratulatory messages from fans and friends alike. And while it seems like more fans were confused than upset, Nielsen seemed quite happy with her choice.
Fast forward to June, and the wait is finally over. On Friday, June 22, Brigitte and her husband, Mattia Dessi, welcomed their daughter, Frida. The baby girl was born in a Los Angeles Hospital, weighing in at 5 lbs., 9 oz.
The couple spoke exclusively to PEOPLE and expressed their sheer delight at the birth of the new baby.
We are overjoyed to welcome our beautiful daughter into our lives. It’s been a long road, and so worth it. We’ve never been more in love.
Nielsen first opened up about wanting more children in an interview in 2008. She shared this information with Hello! magazine at the time.
The children have kept me going. After I do Playboy, we want to try IVF. It’s asking a lot, but if it’s possible, it would make our package complete.
Her comments came just two years after she got married to husband number 5, Dessi. And it was not a very easy decision, seeing as she had fought with her personal demons for several years.
Nielsen once battled alcohol addiction and was admitted to a rehabilitation center for a while. She does not deny the fact that she made some bad decisions in her past that affected her as a parent.
I’ve been a bad mom at times – when you take the bottle over your kids, you’re a bad mom. But I love them, and there has always been a close bond.
Thankfully, those days are long gone and with the birth of her new baby, we hope that life only gets better. At least, she finally has another girl in the house. Congratulations, Brigitte Nielsen!
