Date June 8, 2018 12:01

Dutch-American reality TV star Yolanda Hadid was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012 and according to her, that was the beginning of the end of her marriage. From then on, she was plagued by a variety of symptoms, ranging from fatigue to joint pain, insomnia and anxiety.

According to PEOPLE, Hadid blames the breakdown of her marriage to David Foster on her condition. She shared her concerns in her memoir "Believe Me: My Battle With the Invisibility of Lyme Disease."

I’m starting to feel that David is unhappy with the fact that I can’t be by his side the way that I used to be. I try to make light of it and joke that he married a lemon. It’s sad but true. I went from being the funny girlfriend who was up for anything and had endless energy to the wife who is too sick to be by his side.

Because of the intense pain she had to endure, Hadid withdrew from her once active social life. For her, even the smallest everyday tasks were a pain.

And she went through a barrage of medical treatments, from the familiar to the bizzare: everything from colonics to treatments involving insertion of frog venom into her ankles.

There were plenty of times when I thought that I wouldn't make it through the night alive, and others where I wished and prayed that I would die.

To make matters worse, Hadid’s youngest daughter, Bella, and her son, Anwar, were both diagnosed with Lyme disease as well, tripling the trauma that the family was already facing. Their situations were not as dire as their mother’s, though.
