Titanium Duchess: Meghan Markle's Birthday Sunglasses Are More Special Than Many Fans Realized

Date August 9, 2018

On Saturday, August 4, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, celebrated her 37th birthday. However, she did not have a lavish party. Instead, she attended the wedding of Charlie van Straubenzee alongside her husband, Prince William.

The Duchess was classy as ever in a multicolored dress with black heels and an artsy hat. Her dress was a touch different from outfits she has appeared in before, as this one was quite inexpensive. Harper’s Bazaar pegged the Club Monaco dress at £545 ($328).

One item in the Duchess’ attire may have slipped under the radar, but sharp-eyed fans caught on. Her sunglasses were by Linda Farrow and made from 18-22 carat gold-plated Japanese titanium.

The pricing for the sunglasses is £545 ($742), according to the designer’s website. That is easily a few hundred pounds more than the cost of her dress. Who would have thought?

The Duchess is well known for her sense of style, despite the slight disappointment many of her fans had at her simple wedding dress. With a busy schedule and several events to attend, the Duchess is spending a considerable amount of money on her wardrobe.

In the one month following the royal wedding, the Duchess spent £155,000 ($179,676) on clothes. And during her two-day tour in Ireland, her wardrobe costs came to a whopping £28,000 ($32,457).

Prince Charles is in charge of funding for the royal wardrobes, but seeing as the Duchess has some decent green of her own in the bank (about £5 million ($5.8 million) or more), it is not surprising that she held on to her taste for pricey clothes even after joining the royal family.
