Candice Bergen is returning in her role of the investigative journalist and TV show host. Jack McDorman plays her son in the new show. Watch out for the drama as they work on different shows on different networks.

Bergen is also the executive producer of the new TV show and will have her hands full, filling both roles. The original series was quite popular in the 80s and 90s, eventually getting 18 Emmy awards, 5 of them for Bergen's performance.

Back in the day, Murphy Brown tackled political issues and observers expect that producer will keep to the same spirit with the reboot. So expect to see references to President Trump’s government and policies on a regular basis.

Production is already in full swing and the cast sat down this Tuesday for their first table read in New York. Earlier this month, Bergen had revealed that production would be taking place in New York at the Kaufman Studios in Astoria, Queens. The first show was recorded in Burbank, California.

Entertainment Weekly shared this first-look photo of the new cast, taken at a photo shoot before the reading took place in New York. Faith Ford returns as Corky Sherwood, Joe Regalbuto – as Frank Fontana, and Grant Shaud – as Miles Silverberg.

While reception for the renewal has been largely positive, some television viewers are skeptical, even suggesting that Murphy Brown is past its prime.

Whatever the case, CBS believes that the reboot will be a major success and, with Bergen still on the team, the odds are in their favor. Murphy Brown will be premiered on Sept. 27 at 9:30 p.m.
