"Chicago Fire" Producers Share The Truth Behind Gabby Dawson's Exit And How It Affects 'Dawsey'

While fans of “Chicago Fire” are sure to have another season hitting their TV screens soon, the show will be down by one character as Monica Raymund who plays paramedic Gabby Dawson is leaving.

Back in May this year, Raymund shared the news with her fans via Twitter. In her tweet she thanked her fans for the support and called her time on the show “one of the most meaningful experiences” she ever had.

Dawson was one of the original characters on the show that began airing in 2012. The starlet concluded that it was time to “move on to the next chapter in life”. Here is hoping that she succeeds in all her future endeavors.

But what exactly does the future hold for Gabby Dawson and her husband Matt Casey? Showrunner Derek Haas told TVLine that Dawson’s was not entirely surprising, as Raymund had indicated she might be leaving the show at the end of the previous season.

Fans were distraught when Dawson and Casey had a big fight and she eventually made inquiries about a volunteer job in Puerto Rico. Nevertheless, Hass suggested that Dawson might not be entirely off the show as writers are considering the possibility of a long-distance relationship.

We actually did a lot of research about the modern long-distance relationship, and how those are dealt with and/or overcome and/or fraught with danger.

Although this was not part of the plan for the new season, writers are still considering the possibility of making adjustments in this direction. There is no certainty that the couple will get a divorce but Haas assures fans it will be an exciting experience moving into season 7.

In the meanwhile, producers are introducing Annie Ilonzeh as Emily Foster, a new paramedic that will fill the shoes Dawson is leaving empty. Ilonzeh has appeared in other hit TV shows like “Graceland” and "Empire.”
