Hollywood Stands To Applause As Ace Actor Robert De Niro Celebrates His 75th Birthday

He is the ever-scowling, tough-talking boss from American television that everybody loves to love. De Niro was born on August 17, 1943, in New York City, New York. He cut his teeth at 20 in Brian De Palma’s “The Wedding Party,” a film shot in 1963, but released in 1969.

In 1980, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor after playing Jake LaMotta in 1990’s “Raging Bull” after winning Best Supporting Actor for his role as Vito Corleone in “The Godfather Part II” (1974).

Well before his face became popular on television, De Niro was already trying his hands out at acting, playing the Cowardly Lion in a school production of “The Wizard Of Oz”. Ironically, his portrayals of Italian gangsters are highly appreciated even among Italians.


In 2006, he was granted Italian citizenship, a testament to his charm and appeal even on the international scene. He made history as the first actor to win the Best Supporting Actor award in a character that barely spoke English. De Niro had to learn Sicilian to pull off the role, a feat only so many other actors can boast of.
