Williams reportedly had an entire floor of the hospital she delivered at cleared so she could have her baby away from prying eyes.

Williams also held a baby shower in Miami and several of her celebrity friends attended. One of her oldest friends, Meghan Markle, did not attend as she was visiting her then fiancé, Prince Harry.

Many Williams fans were looking forward to the star marking her daughter’s birthday in grand style. However, during a press conference at the U.S. Open, she revealed that there would be no celebrations and the reason was very important. The famous tennis player said:

Olympia doesn’t celebrate birthdays. We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we don’t do that.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that celebrating birthdays displease God and as such, abstain from it. The church’s website explains that activities during birthdays are the main concern, not the celebrations as a whole. In addition, birthday celebrations reportedly have roots in paganism.

Some Williams fans on social media were quite surprised that she is a Jehovah’s Witness but some others said they knew all along.

Tough luck to everyone expecting delightful birthday pictures from Williams and her husband, entrepreneur Alexis Olympia Ohanian. However, it is likely the family has some way to mark the birthdays of their sweet girl.
