Meghan Markle Decided To Follow Princess Diana And Fergie: She Won't 'Obey' Prince Harry

In 1981, Princess Diana brought an end to a wedding tradition, which made brides vow to 'obey' their husbands in marriage. She refused to stick to the archaic custom, thus starting the modern transformation of the royal family.

Sarah Ferguson followed Diana's example when marrying Prince Andrew in 1986. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle did the same.

It might've been an act of going against royal rules back in 1981, but today, not vowing to obey to your groom is a common practice.


It's said that 'obeying' part was previosly used by the church in line with the old notion that men owned their women. 

But we all live in the modern world, and the church openly supports the contemporary vows.

After all, Meghan and Harry did promise themselves for one another "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part”.
