Melania Trump Sparks Controversy By Wearing A $39 'I Really Don't Care' Jacket To Immigrant Children Detention Centers

Date June 22, 2018 11:46

Melania Trump paid a visit to child detention centers in Texas after they sparked the controversy regarding keeping immigrant children away from their parents.

The FLOTUS personally wanted to see the situation for herself, especially since President Trump cancelled the policy of separating kids from their parents at the Mexico and U.S. border.

However, as it often happens, Melania's agenda for this trip was overlooked due to the jacket she wore during her visit.

Hidden message?

The First Lady was seen wearing a 39-dollar jacket from ZARA with a written statement on the back: "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" when arriving at Maryland. She later changed out of it when she visited child centers in Texas, but was seen wearing it again on her way home.

As expected, the media promptly rushed to try and decipher what Melania was trying to say with it. Many accused the First Lady of directing this message at the outrage surrounding the policy itself.

Melania's spokesman reacted to the controversy by shutting down all conspiracies:

It's a jacket. There was no hidden message.

Perhaps, the jacket problem would've been left alone after that, but Donald Trump offered his intake on Melania's questionable fashion choice and confirmed that message was aimed at someone in his tweet. He wrote:

'I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO YOU?' written on the back of Melania's jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares.

Fake media or not, the hidden message is still not sitting right with the public. One of the Twitter users set up a website ireallydocare.com to gather donations for immigrant help groups.

All we can say is, even if it really was just a jacket, it's very risky for FLOTUS to put anything slightly controversial out in the open. Considering the political situation and rapidly dropping approval rates of her husband, Melania should be more careful.

Public is split

Many Twitter users reacted to Melania's bold fashion choice, but it seems they're opinions are split. Some believe she's showing her true face, some think it's a message to her husband, and others just see a plain jacket.

What do you think? Was the FLOTUS trying to tell us something?
