Losing the love of her life

Her husband René Angélil, who had battled throat cancer for years, died at 73. Before his death, they had been married for 22 years, but the two had been together for almost her entire life.

Celine met her husband when she was only 12, with a good 26-year gap between them. He was her manager and in time, became the love of her life. They had 3 children, René-Charles, 17, and 8-year-old twins, Nelson and Eddy.

Opening up about her loss

Sadly, while the singer was still grieving his loss, just two days later, she got news that her elder brother, Daniel Dion, had succumbed to brain, throat and tongue cancer in Montreal. He was only 59.

The fiercely private Celine Dion mourned the loss of both men out of the public eye, but later, she opened up about what it felt like to lose the love of her life and her brother.

Celine said it was perfect the way her husband chose to 'escort' her brother. And she added that her René would take care of her brother.

He took him under his wings and he said ‘You know, I’ll take good care of him'.

She's a hero

The singer also added that her husband was a big believer in moving on, and despite the heartbreak, she had drawn strength from him while protecting their sons.

But she had made it clear that romance is not in the pipes for her just yet.

Celine Dion continues to prove that she is a hero. Her strength is inspiring not just to her children, but to her fans, as well. In 2003, the singer also lost her 80-year-old dad, Adhemar Dion, who had been sick for years and pulled through with admirable strength. We are glad she's doing great.
