"Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro Opened Up About Mother's Death One Year After She Lost The Battle With ALS

It’s been a little over a year “Cake Boss” star Buddy Valastro lost his mother, Mary Valastro, who passed away from a long battle with ALS. Now, Buddy can finally reflect on what happened. He took to Instagram to share a sweet photo of him and his mom.

Valastro captured it with:

Spending the day on the water with the whole famiglia and have been thinking of her for all of it. It’s been a year today since we said our goodbye for now and while I know she’s up there with dad, I miss her so much. Love you mom.

The last day

When talking about his mother’s last day, Buddy says it was he felt mixed feelings.

It was a mixture of sadness and relief because she wasn’t really living at the time. This disease is horrible and it takes a toll on you, and she wasn’t that firecracker she always was.

He continues by saying that during the last two years of his mother’s life, she wasn’t herself. Valastro points out that he is sad she’s gone but admits he’s glad God took her because of the devastating disease, which made him feel like it wasn’t fair on her.

The loss of his father

When Valastro lost his father to lung cancer at 17 years old, the emotions were very different. He said:

With my dad, it was just so sudden. I watched my mom cry for nine months straight—but she became the most outgoing, vibrant, independent woman. That’s why the ALS was so torturous.

But the loss of one of the most important people in Valastro family brought Buddy and his mother even closer and made their bond even stronger.

Now, the “Cake Boss” says he believes his parents are reunited in heaven.
