The Duchess of Sussex received a spoonful of sharp criticism for breaking yet another royal tradition, which some spectators were not happy about.

Usually, members of the royal family are expected to attach name pins to their outfits when attending the famous racing event, and to prove this tradition, Prince Harry was spotted wearing one. The only member of the royal family who can say ‘no’ the pin is the Queen.

So many raised a question as to why Meghan Markle appeared to have forgotten her name pin. Did she just get into a habit of breaking royal protocol?

However, according to royal historian Marlene Koenig, the Duchess of Sussex was not obliged to wear the pin on her dress. She explained:

Wearing pins has nothing to do with protocol. Protocol is for official, diplomatic, state events, including where you sit, when you enter, etc.

Koenig suggests that the reason why Meghan opted not to attach the pin to her outfit but simply carry it in her hand is because she didn’t want to ruin her stunning Givenchy dress. Markle wasn’t the only one who did so, as the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie were not wearing name pins either.

Perhaps, the critics should lose their grip on the Duchess of Sussex just a little bit.
