In a new documentary on Sky One, the former actress’ friends and colleagues discussed the woman they all knew before she joined the royal family. Nelthorpe-Cowne recalls that Meghan once revealed to her that she is ready to start a family.

She said to me, 'I would absolutely love to have children, and I can't wait to be a mother.

But when the Duchess of Sussex will make her wish come true, her children will never bear the titles of ‘Prince’ or ‘Princess’, unlike the Duchess of Cambridge's children. Instead, Meghan's future kids will be known as ‘Lord’ or ‘Lady’.

The former ‘Suits’ star is not a princess either simply because she is not a blood-born royal.

According to the British Crown’s rules, only those born in the royal family can have Prince or Princess titles. Prince Harry's mother, Diana, was known as the Princess of Wales because her husband was the Prince of Wales, but she was never referred to as such in royal proceedings.

The only person who can break the royal rules is the Queen. Kate and William’s eldest son, Prince George, was appointed to his title, according to rules. But when the duchess was pregnant in 2012, the Queen stepped in, issuing a patent that said:

All the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honor.

Thanks to their great-grandma, Prince Charlotte and Prince Louis can enjoy their titles, too.

The Queen can issue another patent for Prince Harry and Meghan's children as well. But we will see in the future if she decides to do so.
