Starring in more than 20 movies, Nicole Kidman has learned the art of complete transformation, emotional and physical. She sported a total bad-ass look for How to Talk to Girls at Parties and famously donned a fake nose to portray Virginia Woolf for her Oscar-winning performance in The Hours.

But her recent role required Kidman to undergo a much more drastic transformation than we’ve seen before.

'Destroyer'

Judging by the hit TV series Big Little Lies and her latest work, Destroyer, it seems like Nicole Kidman is looking for roles to shake things up in her career. In the new trailer, the brave Aussie proved that she has no problem with putting herself through a crazy transformation, similar to the one Charlize Theron managed to do.

In fact, you really have to strain your eyes to be able to tell that this is actually Kidman, which only demonstrates her awe-worthy dedication to her role. Destroyer, which tells the story of a troubled LAPD detective, who, in her youth, was placed undercover amidst a gang in a California desert, which resulted in tragedy, reminds an Al Pacino-esque Hollywood noir.

The Oscar-winning actress got a rare chance to portray a damaged anti-hero – a role that is usually given to men. She went through a complete physical transformation in the film and had to wear special prosthetics that changed her face and bone structure. But Kidman hopes that her unrecognizable appearance won’t destruct people from her performance.

This character is also so far removed from me, so that’s part of the appeal as an actor: going to places I haven’t been given the chance to go. I’m all about finding characters and stories that [make me] go, ‘This is new, but it’s still emotionally relevant'.
