Duchess Markle Will Have To Follow Specific Royal Rules If She Becomes Pregnant. What Are They?

Date July 24, 2018

Ever since Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry tied the knot in May, royal watchers have been waiting for any pregnancy news. Is it going to happen soon?

The newlyweds seem to like the idea of having a baby in the near future. The American beauty told her close friend Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne about it, and the royal prince mentioned it in his first interview after the engagement:

Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.

But what royal rules will Meghan have to follow once she’s pregnant?

First of all, the Duchess of Sussex can’t reveal the gender of the baby until she gives birth. This rule is standard for all members of the family, as we didn’t know the gender of all of the Cambridges' kids too.

Then, the 36-year-old will have to put traveling on hold. Although royal ladies usually work a lot and go on maternity leave only right before the child is born, they are discouraged from traveling abroad.

She should also forget about a baby shower. According to Victoria Arbiter, a royal expert, it would be inappropriate for the royals to throw a lavish party:

There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.

What about the rules once the baby is born?

It goes without saying that the Queen should be the first to know about the birth of the new addition to the family.

As for other rules, like giving birth at home or not allowing the father in the birthing rules, it’s likely Meghan and Harry will break them, just like William and Kate did.
