Royal etiquette expert Myka Meier explained that during the daytime, the duchesses opt for other kinds of jewels, such as sapphires, pearls, and gemstones. Meanwhile, diamonds are reserved for formal events that take place in the evening:

At night, you’ll see the diamonds come out, and that’s in order to not come across as flashy in your appearance.
