Brigitte Nielsen Opens Up About The Difficulty Getting Pregnant At 54: "It Is Such A Long Road"

Date July 27, 2018 14:32

June 22 was a happy day for the actress and model Brigitte Nielsen. She and her husband, Mattia Dessi, welcomed their little baby daughter, Frida. This is the fifth child of the 54-year-old actress.

Brigitte’s decision to have a baby at such an age was met with criticism. Many people believed she was taking a great risk both for herself and her baby. But having another kid was the model’s long-term dream.

This is her long journey

As Nielsen revealed in an interview with People, becoming a new mom in her 50's was really difficult. First, she had to freeze her eggs at the age of 40, shortly after meeting her husband:

It is such a long road. If you don’t want to use donor eggs, you have to preserve your own eggs at a reasonable age for there to be a possibility.

And still, doctors couldn’t guarantee in vitro fertilization treatment would work. They gave Brigitte a very slim chance of conceiving – only 3-4%.

Luckily, after reading a lot about the process and having undergone it a few times, she proved to herself that everything was possible, no matter the age. What she now wants other women to know is that the treatment is quite expensive, but they should never give up.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to have a baby whether you’re 20, you’re 30, you’re 40 or, in my case, 50.

How did the public react?

Many people congratulated Nielsen on beating the odds and supported the actress in her decision to have a baby in her 50's:

Still, there are some people who disapprove of it:

What do you think about it?
