One of the most devastating experiences that can happen to a parent is learning that their child has cancer. This is what Canadian singer Michael Bublé had to go through, and he opened up about it to James Corden on a Carpool Karaoke special dedicated to cancer awareness.

Michael Bublé’s son cancer diagnosis

In 2016, Michael Bublé’s son Noah was diagnosed with liver cancer when he was just 3 years old. Michael and his wife, actress Luisana Lopilato, were in a state of shock and their son’s future was uncertain.

Their whole family rallied around them, and they moved to Los Angeles where little Noah would receive the best treatment. Speaking to Corden, Bublé got emotional when he recalled the experience:

We took it day by day. We all moved and lived by [Children's Hospital Los Angeles] and we just had the best doctors. God, thank you Jesus Christ.

How the singer handled the painful experience

Although the scariest part of the ordeal is now behind, Bublé tears up every time he talks about his son’s cancer. If there’s a silver lining in this whole thing, then it’s that it brought the family closer together. Bublé told Corden that he and his wife relied on each other for support:

My wife and I, when this all started, I became the strength to somehow pull us and lift us and to be positive. And when they got [the cancer] out, and the chemo was done, and they said, ‘We did it, it’s good, he’s OK,’ I fell. I just fell.

My wife picks me up now.

And the real fighter is, of course, little Noah. He’s 5 years old now, and his dad is immensely proud of him. Like all 5-year-olds, Noah likes superheroes from comics, but his dad always tells him he’s the real superhero:

I always say to him, ‘Spiderman is amazing, Superman is amazing, but they’re fake. They are not real. You’re a superhero. You’re my hero, my real superhero’.

Now that his son is cancer-free, Bublé wants to give back. At the end of the episode, the singer urged viewers to donate to cancer charity Stand Up To Cancer.

We wish Michael Bublé and his family to have many joyful moments and his young son to remain cancer-free. After all these struggles, they deserve to be happy!
