5 Major Scandals The Royal Family Probably Wishes You'll Forget

Date June 1, 2018

The royal family, like any other family, isn't perfect. They have had their own share of scandals over the years. And because of their fame, the world got to witness some of these dramatic moments.

When Harry went to rehab

The British royal family does try to maintain a clean, elegant, and united front. However, things got a little bit dicey when Prince Harry was caught smoking marijuana at the age of 16.

This particular incident made it to the front page of News of the World, a now defunct publication. As a way to ensure it never happened again, Prince Charles sent his son to rehab for a day. The BBC reported that the royal was taken to a treatment center in South London.

Sarah Ferguson's toe-sucking drama

In 1992, compromising pictures of the Duchess of York graced the covers of many UK tabloids. Fergie was in the company of Texan millionaire John Brian. In the pictures, Bryan appeared to be sucking the Duchess' toe.

Fergie was separated from Prince Andrew at the time, but this did not make the situation any less scandalous.

The Queen's daughter

In 2002, Queen Elizabeth II's only daughter, Princess Anne, earned herself a criminal record. One of her dogs had attacked two children, and the princess pled guilty to the charge.

Prince Charles and the Tampax

Shortly after the announcement of Diana and Charles' separation, some private conversation between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles came to light. Evidently, the phone lines were bugged and the world got to hear Prince Charles suggest that he wanted to be Camilla's "Tampax."

An intruder in the Queen's bedroom

In 1982, a man named Michael Fagan climbed the wall of Buckingham Palace and managed to find his way into Queen Elizabeth's bedroom.

No one was exactly sure how this happened, but at the time, it was reported that Fagan and the Queen spoke for about 10 minutes. However, in 2012, Fagan told The Independent that the royal did not spend a second with him but ran out of the room, "her little bare feet running across the floor."

While we may not be forgetting any of this drama anytime soon, we have to applaud the family for keeping things a lot less complicated in the last few years.
