Prince William and Kate Middleton's road to happily ever after was far from smooth. These bumps on the way, however, helped them grow stronger as a couple.
The infamous 2007 breakup
In April 2007, William, who was just 24, and Kate, 25, ended their relationship. Before then, it was widely speculated that the pair was getting married. At the time, people did not really know much about the couple's issues.
However, there were some reports that they might have been drifting apart since William began his training as an armored troop commander.
According to the UK Sun, Kate did not feel like William was paying her much attention, which she found very frustrating. It did not help that around the same time, William was spotted hanging out with an 18-year-old Brazillian student.
The couple met in 2001 and began being seen out and about in 2004. But it was not until March 2006 that Kate made her first public appearance with other members of the royal family, making their relationship official.
Why did they break up
Years after the split, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge opened up about what led to that particular pause in their relationship. In a joint interview after their 2010 engagement, William revealed:
We were both very young. We were finding ourselves. It was very much trying to find our own way, and we were growing up.
I, at the time, wasn’t very happy about it. But actually, it made me a stronger person.
Today, they are happily married parents of three
It turned out that the breakup in 2007 was a good thing. Since they got back together and William popped the question three years later, things have been going very smoothly.
The couple got married in 2011 and have three kids together: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
