Meghan Markle is known for playing it a little fast and loose when it comes to proper royal attire. Since her engagement to Prince Harry, she has been spotted at several events showcasing her own unique fashion. Is that about to change?
Duchess Meghan's first official post-wedding event
Just three days after she and Prince Harry tied the knot, the pair made their first appearance as a married couple at an event organized in honor of Harry's father.
Meghan was certainly in full royal mode at this event. She stunned in a nude dress and a matching hat.
The occasion was in recognition of Prince Charles' charity work over the years, and it was the first of many events that would take place ahead of Charles' birthday in November.
Why so much buzz about the pantyhose?
This was the first time the Duchess wore tights to a royal event. In the last few months, many have slammed her for going bare-legged at functions.
There has not been any tangible proof that Queen Elizabeth II directed the royal ladies to wear tights. However, every female member of the royal family, like Camilla, Kate Middleton, and even the Queen herself, have been known to wear nude pantyhose to keep their legs from being bare.
Keep in mind, however, that these royal ladies are probably used to wearing these garment. The fact that Meghan has now joined the trend really does add fuel to the fire that it's a non-negotiable royal fashion protocol.
Royal expert Kelly Lynch, who spoke to Yahoo!, explained:
Generally speaking, the Queen is pretty progressive, but she does require all women in the family to wear pantyhοse if they choose to wear dresses or skirt. The simple reason is, Her Majesty considers it ladylike, proper, and appropriate, and it’s the one rule she won’t budge on, regardless of temperature.
Does this mean we should expect more of this from Meghan?
When it comes to royal fashion rules, the former Suits actress does not really follow it to the letter. During her official photocall to announce her engagement to Prince Harry, eyebrows were raised because she did not wear pantyhose.
It looks like she has been waiting to be an official member of the royal family before dressing the part. If that's the case, there's a high chance we will be seeing more royal-ready looks from her in the future.
