Sir Elton John had the honor of performing for the now Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day on May 19th. And he chose a fitting song.
At the wedding reception
According to a statement by the Kensington Palace, Sir Elton John performed at the "lunchtime reception" for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry had previously asked the singer to serenade them at the reception which was hosted by The Queen at St. George's Hall, Windsor Castle.
The Prince's choice was based on the fact that the music star and the royal family have developed a strong bond and friendship over the years.
A special number for the newlyweds
According to the UK Telegraph, one of the songs performed by Sir Elton John was "Circle of Life" - a song which was made even more famous by the film, The Lion King.
The singer also performed "Tiny Dancer" for the bride and groom.
Suhani Jalota, founder of the Myna Mahila charity, who was at the event, said Elton John was "incredible."
It became like a mini-concert in the reception area. It was great.
A strong friendship
The music icon's relationship with the royals has lasted for decades. He was very close friends with Princess Diana. After her death, the famous star re-recorded the song "Candle in the Wind" as a tribute to the late Princess of Wales.

The only time he ever performed the song live was at Diana's funeral. But it became massively popular after it was released a week following the funeral. 33 million copies were reportedly sold all over the world, and it became the second bestselling record of all-time after Bing Crosby's "White Christmas."
